Rebekah Vardy has criticised professional footballers who think they are ‘above the law’ and have gone to ‘parties’ during the Covid-19 lockdown.
The WAG, 38, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, insisted that footballers need to ‘set an example’ amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Rebekah, who will make her Dancing On Ice debut this week, hit out at the minority of footballers who flouted the strict Covid safety rules, following reports that a number of stars broke the regulations over Christmas.
‘Set an example’: Rebekah Vardy slammed professional footballers who think they are ‘above the law’ and have gone to ‘parties’ during the Covid-19 lockdown
Rebekah told The Sun: ‘I think it’s a privilege to be in the position that they find themselves in, yes, they work hard, but at the same time they need to set an example.
‘It’s not going to go down well with Joe Bloggs if a footballer is having a lockdown party and off seeing his mates, while he can’t see his family.
‘I think the behaviour of certain people has not shone football in a good light.’
Criticism: The WAG, 38, who is married to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy (pictured in December 2018), said footballers need to ‘set an example’ amid the coronavirus pandemic
Her comments come after the Premier League recorded 36 Covid cases out of 2,295 tests in the latest round of testing, leading to six matches being postponed.
A set of tough new rules sent to Premier League clubs also warn players to avoid ‘unnecessary contact at all times’ including ‘handshakes and hugging’.
Ministers also said they don’t want to see footballers flouting social distancing rules, as such actions make it harder to justify the continuation of elite sport during a national lockdown.
Three Tottenham and one West Ham player were previously slammed for defying London’s Tier 4 Covid rules on Christmas Day by mixing in their families.
Social media snaps revealed Spurs trio Sergio Reguilon, Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela, along with West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini, defied government ruling after London was placed in emergency restriction category Tier 4.

In a photo, which is believed to have been posted by one of the footballer’s friends on Instagram, the four players could be seen in one house with 11 other adults, two children and a baby.
The reckless players were accused of acting like they are ‘above the law’ and conducting themselves as though ‘the rules don’t apply to rich people.
Labour MP for Tottenham and Shadow Lord Chancellor David Lammy told TalkSport the actions of the players was ‘so damn stupid and selfish. It just beggars belief’.
In the aftermath of the image, Spurs issued an official club statement which read: ‘We are extremely disappointed and strongly condemn this image showing some of our players with family and friends together at Christmas particularly as we know the sacrifices everybody around the country made to stay safe over the festive period.’
Backlash: The players were accused of acting like they are ‘above the law’ and acting as though ‘the rules don’t apply to rich people (pictured, Lamela and Reguilon in October)
‘The rules are clear, there are no exceptions, and we regularly remind all our players and staff about the latest protocols and their responsibilities to adhere and set an example. The matter will be dealt with internally.’
West Ham said they were ‘disappointed’ to learn of Lanzini’s actions: ‘The Club has set the highest possible standards with its protocols and measures relating to COVID-19 so we are disappointed to learn of Manuel Lanzini’s actions. The matter has been dealt with internally and Manuel has been strongly reminded of his responsibilities.’
After the backlash, Lanzini and Lamela also both apologised for their actions in separate posts on social media.
Rebekah has recently praised her footballer husband, 34, for homeschooling their five children and said he has a talent for mathematic equations and algebra.
The model is a mother to five children – Megan, 15, Taylor, ten, Sofia, six, Finlay, three, and Olivia, one – and has recently spoke out about her postpartum body.

On her new website, she reflected on showing off her postpartum figure unedited in 2017 following the birth of her son Finley.
She said: ‘I wanted to let other new Mums see how I looked as I knew I wasn’t the only one with a wobbly belly, rolls, bigger thighs and heavy boobs.
‘After these pics were published, I was approached to do a fitness DVD to show women how to shed their baby weight but I turned it down.
‘That was never what these pics were about for me. These were to make new Mum’s feel good about how they looked, these were meant to empower and inspire body confidence.
‘I wasn’t going to insult women by making them believe that they had to be thinner to be happy as I believe happiness comes from inside, not from your appearance.

The star said the majority of postpartum photos she saw were of mothers who had ‘bounced back into shape’ adding: ‘Good for them and good for you if that’s how your body works but my post partum body doesn’t work that way.
‘These are some of my favourite photos of myself. If you were one of the people who sent me lovely messages after these pics were published then thank you and to everyone else who shares a bit of reality from time to time, thank you too.’
Giving a more candid insight into her life, she posed up in a pair of period-proof pants by Modibodi which she revealed were ‘super-comfy’ and ideal for ice skating practice ahead of her Dancing On Ice debut.
The website reveal comes after Rebekah detailed the ‘horrific’ accident that left her Dancing On Ice partner Andy Buchanan in hospital.
The mother-of-five who hates the sight of blood, revealed she ‘almost fainted’ at Andy’s gory injuries after she mistakenly sliced his face open in training.
Skating injuries: Rebekah recently detailed a ‘horrific’ accident that left her Dancing On Ice partner Andy Buchanan in hospital
In a new interview, Rebekah explained she felt ‘petrified’ after getting back on the ice the following day and she still feels guilty knowing the accident was her mistake.
She told MailOnline: ‘I’ve had so many falls and obviously I injured Andy that was the most horrific experience.
‘I thought he was messing around to begin with because he does like a bit of a joke and he likes to rib me quite a bit and we were doing a move…
‘The last thing he said to me was ‘don’t kick me in the face’ and I was like ‘why would you say that?
‘You are just going to jinx us’ so we did what we were doing and he nearly dropped me and I was like ‘oh s*** what’s happened?”
‘I nearly passed out’: The mother-of-five who hates the sight of blood, revealed she ‘almost fainted’ at Andy’s gory injuries after she mistakenly sliced his face open in training
‘I looked at him and he was holding his face and I was like ‘stop messing about’ and I laughed and then he removed his hand from his face and there was blood everywhere.
‘I hate the sight of blood. Five kids and I can’t deal with blood and I nearly passed out. It wasn’t good and I felt horrific.’
Rebekah said her partner Andy was more concerned with her reaction to his injuries and it having an impact on her confidence, instead of any damage caused to his face.
