Chicago looking for playoff boost

Chicago will look to close out the month of August with the return of their U.S. national team member Casey Krueger and Tierna Davidson from the Olympics. The team is winless in its last three games, and is looking for its first win since Aug. 1. Kansas City is coming off a win in its previous match against Racing Louisville FC. Newly acquired players Kristen Hamilton, Hallie Mace and Adrianna Franch have already provided the last-place side with a spark on the pitch.

Spirit and Courage try to chase shield

The Spirit have been impressive in the attack this season with Ashely Hatch, Trinity Rodman and Ashley Sanchez carrying the weight. The Courage welcomed U.S. Olympian Lynn Williams back to the squad last week and connected on goal in the 12th minute against Kansas City. The Courage are currently five points behind the Portland Thorns for first place.

Reign host second act of Cascadia rivalry

OL Reign will host Portland Thorns FC at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington in the second meeting between the two sides this regular season. The two teams last met back in May, but are now in different positions as OL Reign sit fourth behind the Thorns, who are currently atop the table.

The arrival of Olympians back into both squads could have an impact in this game, but the Reign are riding the momentum of a big come form behind win against Gotham FC as Megan Rapinoe spearheaded a second-half comeback with an assist and two penalty-kick goals, while Rose Lavelle recorded six shots, with three on target, and two chances created.

Gotham and Orlando seek tiebreaker edge

NJ/NY Gotham FC host Orlando Pride as the two teams are level on 21 points and sit in fifth and sixth place, respectively. Both clubs are coming off recent losses in their previous matches and are meeting for the second time this season. A winner in this match would create a head-to-head tiebreaker, a potential advantage with a final game remaining between the two teams in October.

Orlando Pride forward Sydney Leroux currently leads the league in the Golden Boot race with seven goals, and the team will likely rely on her active movement in the final third for the breakthrough against an organized Gotham FC defense.

Houston and Louisville with an eye on playoff table

The Dash have a close eye on teams ahead of them with 18 points, and need a winning result against Racing Louisville to keep pace with 10 games remaining for them in their season.

Houston has finally welcomed the return of their U.S. and Canadian Olympians, and the added boost of Kristie Mewis and Sophie Schmidt in the midfield will provide more options in the attack with Rachel Daly and Nichelle Prince.
