The Gold Cup semifinals continue on Thursday night as Mexico face Canada in Houston. El Tri are going for back-to-back titles at the cup and are looking to make the final for the seventh time in the last 10 editions. The Canadians, meanwhile, are hoping to make the title game for the second time ever after their surprising run to the title in 2000. Canada remain the only national team not named Mexico or the United States to win the competition.

Here’s how you can watch the match and what to know:

Storylines

Mexico: Gerardo Martino’s team has won its last three games, and it has not conceded a goal over that span. While the attack has been sharp at times, there has been a trend of scoring a lot, then scoring little or none. After the 3-0 win against Honduras, if the trend continues, they’ll struggle with their finishing here. That feels like the only way Canada really have a shot though, because if this attack is even close to on, it can be over by the hour mark. Regardless of the goals, Mexico have consistently created numerous chances, and that should be no different here. Will they put the game away … or will they let Canada stick around and risk a shocking upset?

Canada: The defense has conceded just three goals in four games, but will they be able to handle their stiffest test yet? Mexico’s ability in the air, along with their pace on the wing, will test this Canada side much more than both the U.S. and Costa Rica. They need to keep it slow, and keep it kind of ugly with consistent fouls to hamper the pace. If they can frustrate the Mexico attack, then they may get their chance on the counter. If it is a game that requires multiple goals from them, then they’ll be facing an uphill battle that they haven’t proven they can pass.

Prediction

Rogelio Funes Mori scores again as Mexico advance to the final with no trouble at all. Pick: Mexico 2, Canada 0
