English Premier League odds, September 13 picks: Expert reveals best bets for Everton vs. Burnley

Everton will try to remain unbeaten to start the English Premier League season when it hosts struggling Burnley on Monday at Goodison Park. The Toffees are 2-1-0 through the first two games and are averaging more than two goals per contest behind top striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Burnley, meanwhile, has scored just two goals total and will need to start gaining some points after nearly being relegated last season. Burnley made its first appearance in the Premier League in 2009-10 and has been in the top flight the past five seasons. Everton was 10th in 2020-21 and typically finishes mid-table, and the Toffees have been in the Premier League for 29 straight years.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET in Liverpool, England. Caesars Sportsbook lists Everton as the -140 favorite (risk $140 to win $100) in its latest Everton vs. Burnley odds, with Burnley the +430 underdog and a draw priced at +255. The over-under for total goals scored is set at 2.5. Why you should back Everton

Everton is off to a strong start, with two wins and a draw in the first three matches. The Toffees have scored seven goals so far, the same number it had in its final 10 games last year. Calvert-Lewin has scored in all three games, and veteran manager Rafa Benitez has a talented roster to work with. Calvert-Lewin had to withdraw from the England team with injury during international play but is expected to be ready for Monday. He had 16 goals last season.

Salomon Rondon could play a big role, and Richarlison and Demarai Gray are dangerous on the outside. Everton also has a strong back line in front of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, and the Toffees have yielded just three goals. These are the bottom two teams in possession, with Everton at 37.3 percent and Burnley at 35, but the Toffees were at 46.5 percent last season. Everton leads the all-time series 51-30-37, and just one of the last 15 matches has ended in a draw.

Why you should back Burnley

Burnley has one point from a possible nine, but it won 2-1 at Goodison Park last season. The Clarets have won two of the last four road games against Everton. They are 4-1-3 in the last eight meetings and 6-7-1 in 14 matches since Burnley joined the top flight in 2009. The Clarets also are 2-1-0 in their last three Monday road matches, keeping a clean sheet in all three, and took 21 points from their 19 away games last season.

Manager Sean Dyche has done well to keep the team in the top flight with the talent he has to work with. Burnley didn’t do a lot to improve after its 17th-place finish, but it should have a sense of urgency. It needs to start gaining points after nearly being relegated in 2020-21, especially with Arsenal and Leicester City coming up. The Clarets don’t score a lot, posting just 33 goals last season (third-fewest in the EPL), but Chris Wood scored 12 and has one this season.
