Bears reportedly ‘head over heels in love’ with rookie QB Justin Fields

Chicago Bears are finally getting their wish. Well, sort of.

The Bears intend to give rookie quarterback Justin Fields increased snaps against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“He’s growing every day. There are wow moments, wow throws every single day in practice,” Rapoport said. “He’s actually coming along faster than they expected. They are essentially head over heels in love with him.

“They use these packages as growth moments for Fields. No moment is too big, so expect to see (more from) him.”

During last week’s 34-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, Fields played five snaps, including three in the red zone. He ran for his first NFL touchdown and completed two passes for 10 yards.

Veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton remains Chicago’s starting quarterback. He completed 27-of-38 passes for 206 yards during Week 1 and also recorded an interception and a fumble.

Bears fans have begged head coach Matt Nagy to start Fields since his strong showing in the preseason. The former Ohio St. star threw for 276 yards and three touchdowns against no interceptions this summer. He also ran for 92 yards and a score.

Nagy has insisted Dalton will be the team’s starting quarterback this year. However, Fields is making him seriously question that decision. The 22-year-old could take over for the veteran very soon if he continues to impress. But let’s see how he does with increased playing time during Week 2 before speculating.
