MLB DFS: Top DraftKings and FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, lineup advice for Thursday, May 26, 2022

The 2022 MLB season continues on Thursday and setting your MLB DFS lineups on a Thursday tends to be a challenge with several teams off and day games impacting the schedule. However, it’s still a relatively deep MLB DFS player pool this week and there are some intriguing pitching options available. Today’s list of probable starters doesn’t include many bona fide power pitchers but Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to take the ball and there are some crafty options like Eric Lauer, Kyle Wright, Nestor Cortes and Tarik Skubal available.

So which pitchers have matchups that you can take advantage of, and who are some of the more affordable options among position players so you can afford to take big swings elsewhere in your lineups? Creating an effective MLB DFS strategy is all about balance, and with big money on the line in MLB DFS tournaments, cash games and 50-50s on FanDuel and DraftKings, a little help can go a long way. Before you make your MLB DFS picks, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Wednesday, he highlighted Astros starting pitcher Cristian Javier as one of his top MLB DFS picks on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Javier threw 5.2 scoreless inning, giving up only three hits and striking out nine in a win to return 32.35 points on DraftKings and 50 points on FanDuel. Anybody that included him in their lineups was well on the way to a profitable day.

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Thursday, May 26, 2022

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Thursday is Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman ($5,900 on DraftKings and $3,800 on FanDuel). After finishing top 10 in the NL MVP voting in each of the last four years, Freeman left the Braves for the Dodgers this offseason, signing a six-year, $162 million contract.

So far in Los Angeles, it’s been business as usual with Freeman posting a .297/.389/.461 slash line. His power numbers have been down a bit, as he has three homers in 193 plate appearances after clubbing 31 homers in 695 plate appearances a season ago. However, his average exit velocity, hard-hit contact rate and flyball rate are all in line with career averages and it should only be a matter of time before he’s hitting the ball out of the park consistently.

Another part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes rostering Twins shortstop Carlos Correa ($5,500 on DraftKings and $3,400 on FanDuel). After an 0-for-4 night on April 27, Correa’s OPS bottomed out at .504 but he’s been streaking ever since. He’s reached base safely in each of his last 15 games despite a stint on the injured list in the middle of that span.

During that 15-game streak, Correa has eight multi-hit games and he has raised his OPS by 242 points all the way to .746. He also has eight extra-base hits and 12 RBI during that timeframe. On Thursday, Correa and the Twins will match up with Royals left-hander Daniel Lynch. Correa is 4-for-11 off Lynch in his career.
