Arthur Chatto has finished his charity effort and raised £21,059 by rowing 2,000 miles around the UK

The grandson of Princess Margaret was greeted by his proud family at St Katherine Docks in London today, after finishing an epic row around the UK to raise funds for charity.

Arthur Chatto, 20, was greeted quayside by his family and girlfriend Lizzie Friend as the gruelling 2,000-mile charity tour by boat reached its finale.

The university student had taken off from London Bridge on July 8th as part of the GB Row Challenge.

So far, his four-man squad have racked up £21,059 for The British Red Cross and Just One Ocean.

The team, which consists of Arthur alongside Charles Bromhead, Harry Lidgley, Oliver Dawe-Lane, had originally intended to raise the funds for Just One Ocean but said the coronavirus pandemic had inspired them to help the British Red Cross as well.

Hello London! Arthur Chatto, 20, was greeted in St Katharine Docks today by his close family – including mother Lady Sarah Chatto – and girlfriend Lizzie Friend as he finished a 2,000-mile charity tour of the UK

Arthur and his teammates live together, which explains how they were still able to compete in the race during the pandemic. They were the only team taking part this year due to the coronavirus outbreak, which scuppered other teams from participating.

Today’s achievement marked the end of 38 days away from home and the young royal descendant looked delighted to be reunited with his mother, Lady Sarah Chatto, his father Lord Daniel and brother Samuel, 24.

His girlfriend Lizzie Friend, who was wearing a white mask, was also waiting for him at the dock, offering a tender hug

Team Exe endurow took the race in their stride in spite of being the only ones to compete. The University of Exeter students were allowed to take measures in order to keep training in preparation of the race, which they started preparing for six months ago.

Posting on their official Exe endurow Instagram in June, the team commented: ‘We hope you all have stayed safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

‘We are still planning to row around the UK notwithstanding a change in the COVID conditions.

‘Naturally, we’ve been delayed but are working hard to get ourselves ready to row.

‘We’ve also decided, as a result of the situation, to raise money for the British Red Cross as well as JustOneOcean, because we’re keen to do what we can at what is a challenging time for our nation as well as our oceans.’

The royal had been training for the row for the last six months, and first shared a snap weight-lifting in the gym in order to get his fitness up back in January.

While the grandson of the Queen’s sister has earned plenty of fans by sharing his training pictures on Instagram which offer a peek at his impressive physique, Arthur is in a committed relationship with his girlfriend Lizzie Friend.

Lizzie is a fellow Edinburgh University student, where Arthur is studying Geography, and a source previously told the Daily Mail: ‘They hit it off straight away. She’s really sweet and they make a very nice couple. He took her to Royal Ascot this summer as his date.’

While Arthur is still best known for his lineage as the grandson of the Queen’s late sister Princess Margaret, he is quickly gaining a loyal online following thanks to his very cheeky Instagram snaps.

Far from the official photographs that we are used to seeing from royals, Arthur’s Instagram account gives a rare glimpse into his everyday life – and the 20-year-old has no problem sharing revealing snaps.

After attending Westminster Cathedral Choir school he followed in the footsteps of William and Harry at £33,270-a-year Eton.

At Eton he was in its Combined Cadet Force, which teaches pupils various military skills. It echoes the trajectory of Prince Harry, who also joined the CCF at Eton before enrolling in the Armed Forces.

He followed his older brother Sam and now attends Edinburgh University, where he studies Geography.

Princess Margaret’s grandson is also a fan of outdoor sports including Arctic diving and mountain climbing.
