NBA DFS: Russell Westbrook and top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy basketball picks for May 14, 2021

The Philadelphia 76ers enter Friday needing just one more win to wrap up the top seed in the Eastern Conference. They’ll take on the Orlando Magic on Friday, and because the Sixers still have work to do, there’s a great chance that stars like Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris and likely even Joel Embiid (probable, illness) will be in the lineup. NBA DFS players will need to take a close look at every matchup as teams make decisions on their Friday personnel based on where they are in the NBA playoff picture.

Which big names are safe to insert in NBA DFS lineups for FanDuel and DraftKings on Friday? And which players for eliminated teams such as the Magic, Thunder or Rockets should you target in your NBA DFS strategy? Before locking in any NBA DFS picks for Friday, be sure to see the NBA DFS advice, player rankings and top daily Fantasy basketball picks from SportsLine’s Mike McClure.

McClure is a DFS professional with nearly $2 million in career winnings. He’s also a predictive data engineer at SportsLine who uses a powerful prediction model that simulates every minute of every game 10,000 times, taking factors like matchups, statistical trends and injuries into account.

This allows him to find the best NBA DFS values and create optimal lineups that he shares only over at SportsLine. They’re a must-see for any NBA DFS player.

And on Thursday, McClure included Pacers guard T.J. McConnell as one of his core lineup picks for both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: McConnell exploded for 23 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals, returning around 8x value on both sites. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, McClure has turned his attention to the Friday, May 14 NBA DFS slate and locked in his top daily Fantasy basketball picks. You can only see them by heading to SportsLine.

Top NBA DFS picks for Friday, May 14

One of McClure’s top NBA DFS picks for Friday is Kings power forward/center Chimezie Metu at $4,300 on DraftKings and $4,200 on FanDuel. Sacramento has been officially eliminated from the postseason and the Kings were already dealing with a lengthy injury list. Tyrese Haliburton (knee) and De’Aaron Fox (protocols) are both out, while Marvin Bagley (groin) and Harrison Barnes (groin) are both day-to-day.

There’s little motivation to push them into the lineup at this point, so players like Metu will get the big minutes to finish out the season. Metu has provided at least 11 points, five rebounds and two assists in his last three outings. He’s also returned 7x or more value three straight times on DraftKings. He’s the type of player who can provide solid numbers without taking up much salary cap room on Friday, making him a great choice for NBA DFS lineups.

Part of McClure’s NBA DFS strategy for Friday includes rostering Wizards guard Russell Westbrook ($12,800 on DraftKings, $12,500 on FanDuel), who should carry the offense for Washington with Bradley Beal (hamstring) ruled out against the Cavs. Westbrook is one of the few high-end options you can feel good about on this slate since the Wizards still haven’t locked in the final spot in the Eastern Conference.

And with Beal out, Westbrook is about as close to a must-play as you’ll find. The triple-double machine has hit the 80-point plateau on DraftKings four times in his last six outings. He’s regularly returning 7x or more value, so even with his price at the top of the NBA DFS player pool, he’s still a player who is paying off.

How to set NBA DFS lineups for Friday, May 14

McClure is also targeting a player who could go off for massive numbers on Friday because of a dream matchup. This pick could be the difference between winning your tournaments and cash games or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.
