Ben Simmons NBA Draft trade rumors: Warriors reject Sixers’ request for James Wiseman, four first-round picks

Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey is actively shopping Ben Simmons, but so far his asking price has been insanely high for a guy the whole basketball world watched disappear in the second round of the playoffs fewer than two months ago. On Wednesday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Sixers were seeking a “[James] Harden-esque” return for Simmons

For reference, the Rockets got three first-round picks and the rights to four pick swaps from Brooklyn, and another first-round pick from Cleveland, in the Harden deal. That’s four first-round picks in total. On Wednesday, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer noted Philly asked the Spurs for four first-round picks, three pick swaps and a young player in exchange for Simmons. The Spurs said no.

On Thursday, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Morey, in exchange for Simmons, asked the Warriors for four first-round picks, including No. 7 and No. 14 in Thursday night’s draft, plus Andrew Wiggins and last year’s No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman. The first line of Pompey’s story reads as follows: “The Golden State Warriors basically assumed the 76ers’ offer as a joke.”

Morey is starting to sound like the guy in your fantasy league who wants your whole roster for his third receiver and spends all day trying to tell you how he’s the one getting swindled. It’s OK, even understandable, that Morey continues to shoot for the stars. All it takes is one impulsive buyer with enough capital and desperation to pull the trigger, and you’ve got a deal. But nobody is biting.

We’ll see if Morey’s requests start to reflect the reactions he’s getting and become more reasonable.
