“‘Good & Loved’ is a song that I began writing at our church in South Carolina and finished writing at an airport in Africa,” Greene tells Billboard. “I instantly knew that this song was special, but I could not have imagined its impact. I’m so grateful to Doe Jones for adding her amazing voice to this anthem. The success of this song is the product of radio’s support, each listener’s request and, ultimately, the goodness of God.”
Greene had last led Gospel Airplay with “Won’t Let Go” for a week last July. Before that, he reigned with “You Waited” (nine frames starting in November 2017), “Made a Way” (three, beginning in December 2016) and “Intentional” (one, January 2016).
Greene moves into a tie with Donald Lawrence and Marvin Sapp for the fourth-most Gospel Airplay No. 1s since the list launched in March 2005. Kirk Franklin leads with eight, followed by Tamela Mann (seven) and James Fortune & FIYA (six).
As for DOE, her 2020 debut EP Life Room arrived and peaked at No. 24 on Top Gospel Albums in November.
“Good & Loved” was originally released on Greene’s most recent album, 2019’s Broken Record, in a version featuring Steffany Gretzinger. The set started at No. 2 on Top Gospel Albums that November, after the song hit a No. 7 high on the airplay-, sales- and streaming-based Hot Gospel Songs chart that October. The single debuted on Gospel Airplay in December 2020, with the version featuring DOE being promoted to radio.
