The Icon Award is given to an artist who interprets our life in their songs, forms an important part of Latin America’s history, and is considered a musical hero whose name exceeds all generations, according to statement by Telemundo. “In addition to his immense contribution to Latin music, his service to those most in need, coupled with his constant support for Latino immigrants in the United States, make him worthy of the Latin AMAs Icon Award.”
Most recently, Fernández announced dates for his upcoming Hecho En México U.S. tour, which will see him performing with 25 people onstage, including his full band, his Mexican mariachi, special guests Christian Nodal and his son, Alex Fernández, as well as a handful of guests in different cities; see dates here.
This year, Karol G and J Balvin lead the list of nominees at the Latin AMAs with nine nods each. Both are up for artist of the year, sharing the category with Anuel AA, Bad Bunny, Christian Nodal, Eslabon Armado, Maluma, Ozuna and Sech.
Hosted by Mexican actress Jacqueline Bracamontes, the 2021 Latin AMAs – live from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida – also featured performances from Ozuna, Maluma, Ricky Martin, Carlos Vives, Eslabon Armado and more.
