MLB DFS: Top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy for May 8, 2021

The Boston Red Sox (20-13) have the best record in baseball entering Saturday’s action and the stars leftover from the previous era of Boston success are driving the bus. Xander Bogaerts, Rafael Devers and J.D. Martinez are all off to brilliant starts in 2021 and they’ve become regular selections for MLB DFS lineups. All three have an OPS of at least .934, and they’ve combined to hit 23 home runs with 73 RBIs already. So should you consider stacking them with the Orioles sending 25-year-old lefty Zac Lowther to the bump for his first MLB start?

Meanwhile, Lance Lynn, Clayton Kershaw and Dylan Bundy look like the top pitching options in the MLB DFS player pool for Saturday night. So are they worth the premium price or are their middle-tier pitchers who could provide more value in your MLB DFS rosters? Before locking in any MLB DFS picks for Saturday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Friday, McClure recommended Twins outfielder Kyle Garlick as one of his top picks on both DraftKings and FanDuel. The result: Garlick went 2-for-5 with a home run to return over 12x on investment for FanDuel players and over 7x on investment for DraftKings players. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, with the 2021 MLB season rolling on Saturday, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks. Head to SportsLine now to see them

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for May 8, 2021

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Saturday is Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. at $5,600 on FanDuel and $4,400 on DraftKings. Acuna had already established himself as arguably the most exciting young player in the game the past three seasons, but he’s cementing his status as a superstar with an unbelievable start to the 2021 season.

Acuna leads the National League in home runs (10), slugging (.670) and OPS (1.083) entering Saturday and he’s absolutely hammering the ball (94.8 mph average exit velocity), while cutting his strikeout rate from 29.7 percent last season to 13.5 percent this year. He’ll take on Phillies starter Vincent Velazquez on Saturday, who has given up five home runs in his last three starts alone.

Part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy also includes rostering Astros third baseman Alex Bregman ($4,600 on DraftKings, $3,600 on FanDuel). Bregman enters Saturday’s contest against the Blue Jays on a four-game hitting streak where he’s 7-for-16 with a home run and three RBIs.

The 27-year-old is now slashing .310/.367/.490 with five home runs and 18 RBIs this season and he’ll have a lefty-righty matchup against Steven Matz. Bregman has a staggering 1.011 career OPS against left-handed pitching and Matz has allowed 15 hits (including three home runs) in his last two starts.

How to set your MLB DFS lineups for May 8, 2021
