MLB DFS: Top DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy, advice for August 25, 2021

Shohei Ohtani will take the mound on Wednesday as he looks to hand the Orioles their 20th straight defeat. Ohtani homered in his last start, but those rostering in Ohtani’s MLB DFS lineups will only accrue points for Ohtani’s work on the mound rather than what he does at the plate. Thus, daily Fantasy players who were hoping to use the MVP frontrunner as one of their top MLB DFS picks for the outfield will have to look elsewhere.

With just 10 games starting at 7 p.m. ET, there is a somewhat limited MLB DFS player pool, so it will be a little tougher than usual to find quality options. Perhaps someone like Ohtani’s teammate Jared Walsh is worth rostering after he had two hits and scored two runs in Tuesday’s win. But who else out there should factor into your MLB DFS strategy? Before locking in any MLB DFS picks for Wednesday, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Tuesday, McClure included Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers as one of his top MLB DFS picks on both FanDuel and DraftKings. The result: Devers hit his league-leading 34th double while also scoring twice and driving in one run. He returned 18.9 points on FanDuel and 13 points on DraftKings, so anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.

Now, with the 2021 MLB season rolling on, McClure has locked in his top MLB daily Fantasy picks for Wednesday. Head to SportsLine now to see them

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for August 25, 2021

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Wednesday is keeping Devers in your lineups at $5,900 on DraftKings and $4,000 on FanDuel. Devers has broken out of a mini-slump with three hits, three runs scored and two RBI over his last two games. He now has 29 home runs and 91 RBI on the year as he’s on pace to set new career-highs in both categories.

Devers has an ideal matchup Wednesday as he gets to face a right-handed pitcher in Bailey Ober of Minnesota. Devers’ OPS is 148 points higher vs. righties than southpaws as 23 of his 29 homers have come against right-handed pitchers. Likewise, Ober has struggled against lefties like Devers as his OPS allowed is 180 points higher to left-handed batters on the season.

Part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy includes stacking Devers with outfielder Kyle Schwarber ($4,700 on DraftKings, $3,500 on FanDuel). Since being traded to Boston, Schwarber is hitting .348 with a .516 on-base percentage. He was recently activated off the injured list but has picked up right where he left off with the Nationals.

Schwarber has reached base safely in all eight of his games with Boston and he’s reached safely in his last 21 games overall. His OPS has jumped 159 points over this span as the former Cub now has 25 home runs and 53 RBI between both the Red Sox and Nationals. The fact that Schwarber has yet to record an RBI with the Red Sox makes him undervalued, but with the way he’s been swinging since the trade, you need to get him into your MLB DFS lineups.
