MLB DFS: Best DraftKings, FanDuel daily Fantasy baseball picks, strategy for April 23, 2021

All 30 MLB teams are taking the field on Friday, with 28 of them filling the MLB DFS player pool in the prime-time MLB DFS slate. Perhaps Friday’s most intriguing matchup takes place in California, as the Los Angeles Dodgers renew their budding rivalry against the visiting San Diego Padres at 10:10 p.m. ET. The pitching matchup of San Diego right-hander Yu Darvish (1-1, 2.55 ERA) against Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw (3-1, 2.19 ERA) will be a popular one when you’re finalizing your MLB DFS picks.

At $10,200 on DraftKings and $11,000 on FanDuel, Kershaw is the more expensive pitching option in the Padres vs. Dodgers matchup, so rostering him will require some fiscal creativity with the rest of your MLB DFS roster. But with thousands on the line in daily Fantasy baseball tournaments on DraftKings or FanDuel, it certainly pays to get it right. Before setting any MLB DFS lineups for Friday’s action, be sure to check out the MLB DFS advice, strategy and projections from SportsLine daily Fantasy expert Mike McClure.

McClure is a daily Fantasy pro who has won almost $2 million in his career. And when it comes to daily Fantasy baseball, McClure is at his best. Recognized in the book “Fantasy Football (and Baseball) for Smart People: How to Turn Your Hobby into a Fortune” as a top MLB DFS player, McClure’s proprietary projection model simulates each game 10,000 times, taking factors such as matchups and recent results into account. This allows him to find the best values on every site.

On Thursday, McClure had Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers as one of his top picks on both sites. The result: Devers went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored to return over 30 points on FanDuel. Anybody who had him in their lineup was well on the way to a profitable day.

McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for April 23, 2021

One of McClure’s top MLB DFS picks for Friday is Phillies outfielder Andrew McCutchen at $3,900 on DraftKings and $3,700 on FanDuel. McCutchen is hitting .164 with one home run and five RBIs so far this season. McCutchen had the day off along with the rest of the Phillies on Thursday, and he went 1-for-4 with a walk on Wednesday against the Giants.

Although McCutchen’s three straight .300 seasons with Pittsburgh from 2012-14 are squarely in the rear-view mirror, he still has plenty of tread left on the tires. McCutchen has strong history against Rockies starter German Marquez, recording three hits in six at-bats with an RBI double. McCutchen also delivers at Coors Field, hitting .311 in his career with seven home runs, seven doubles, 20 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

Part of McClure’s optimal MLB DFS strategy on Friday also includes stacking McCutchen with third baseman Alec Bohm at $3,500 on DraftKings and $3,100 on FanDuel. Bohm is hitting .219 with two home runs and 10 RBIs so far this season. That includes belting a solo home run on Tuesday against the Giants.

Bohm is in his second MLB season, having hit .338 with four home runs, 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored in 44 games of the 2020 season. And Bohm is trending for much more in 2021, projecting for 18 home runs, 90 RBIs and 63 runs scored. This will be Bohm’s first trip to Coors Field and first look at the Colorado Rockies, but McClure knows that Marquez has given up 44 home runs in 54 games pitched there — and figures Bohm is in a great spot to add to that total.

How to set your MLB DFS lineups for April 23, 2021
