Tomatin has released the fifth expression in its ‘Warehouse 6 Collection’ of single malt Scotch whiskies.

The 1978 iteration contains liquid that matured in an unspecified barrel for 30 years, before spending an additional ten years in an ex-Oloroso Sherry cask. The limited edition single malt is available via Tomatin’s online store and from selected specialist retailers worldwide.

“With over 42 years’ patience comes reward,” said Tomatin’s master distiller, Graham Eunson. “I am extremely proud of The 1978 – a luxurious and truly remarkable single malt.”

The 1978 follows four other expressions in the annual series, including last year’s The 1977, which spent 42 years in a Sauternes wine cask.

Tomatin’s distillery is located on the border of Scotland’s Highland and Speyside whisky regions.

The facility, which has been in operation since 1897, is part-owned by Kyoto-based Takara Shuzo with co-owner Marubeni Corp, also based in Japan, responsible for operations.
