Former Jack Daniel’s master distiller to open Tennessee facility

Jeff Arnett – the ex-master distiller at Brown-Forman’s Jack Daniel’s brand – is to open his own distillery next month, as part of a US$20m investment in Tennessee whiskey.

Company Distilling is a new venture from Arnett, Kris Tatum, former president of the Tennessee Distillers Guild and Heath Clark, the founder of H Clark Distillery. The distillery was founded in 2020 and will throw open the doors to its new facility in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on 8-10 July.

The distillery’s full portfolio will be available to sample at the launch event, including its inaugural Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished with maple wood, which debuted in the US last November.

Arnett – who left Brown-Forman’s Jack Daniel’s brand in September 2020 – said the opening of the company’s distillery to the public was a chance to showcase the culture and collective spirit of the brand.

“Our initial vision for Company Distilling was to be more than just a whiskey brand,” he said. “We envisioned being a full portfolio spirits company, and we had a collective group experience that I thought brought different areas of expertise to the table.

“We were stronger together especially when we were thinking about doing more than just one thing.”

The distillery has partnered with Maryville-based restaurant, Amici, to create a permanent food offering at the facility, the opening of which will be marked by two concerts from local band The Coveralls.
