Edrington has released the first in a new series of limited editions from its single malt Scotch whisky flagship, The Macallan.

Tales of The Macallan Volume I was distilled in 1950 and bottled earlier this year at the brand’s distillery in Scotland’s Speyside whisky region. The release is limited to 350 units and is available from this month via The Macallan’s global boutiques, distillery shop and selected retailers.

According to Edrington, the iteration is dedicated to John Grant who oversaw the building of the Easter Elchies manor house on The Macallan estate in 1700.

Volume I is presented in a decanter designed by French crystal glass house Lalique and each bottle comes with a curated book of Grant’s life made by London bookbinder Shepherds, Sangorski & Sutcliffe and Zaehnsdorf.

“Tales of The Macallan Volume I is a tribute to Captain John Grant, who paved the way for The Macallan and brought the influence of nature and community spirit,” said The Macallan’s lead whisky maker, Sarah Burgess. “As custodians of the estate, we are continuously inspired by our environment, upholding our responsibility to nurture and protect the wonderful natural habitat that is home to our distillery.”

In June, the company released the final expression in The Macallan’s ‘Concept’ series that has been matured in American ex-Sherry, European oak and selected refill oak casks.
