Diageo prepares for change at the top in Ireland as Oliver Loomes steps down

Oliver Loomes is set to call time on his 22-year career with Diageo, with the group appointing the current MD of Mars Petcare’s Australia & New Zealand business as his replacement.

Ireland is home to Diageo’s Guinness business

Loomes, who has been with Diageo since 1999 and MD of Ireland operations for the last six years, will leave the company at the end of June. Barry O’Sullivan will transition from Mars next month to assume leadership of the Ireland business.

According to the company, Loomes will “look to pursue the next chapter in his career” following his departure at the end of June.

“I would like to thank Ollie for the significant contribution he has made to Diageo and for the legacy that he leaves behind, not just in Ireland but in many countries around the world,” said Europe & India president John Kennedy. “I would also like to congratulate Barry on his appointment and welcome him to the Ireland business in his new role.

“I am excited about the experience that Barry brings to the role and look forward to what he will achieve for Ireland.”

Earlier this month, Diageo moved to join the burgeoning ranch water category in the US, buying a majority holding in Texas-based Lone River brand owner Far West Spirits.
